Fanchon Shur
Director of Growth in Motion
Fanchon Shur, a pre-eminent movement artist, movement scientist, movement therapist, poet and orator, founded and has directed Growth in Motion, Inc. since 1978, and the Fanchon Shur Ceremonial Dance Theater since 1974. She has been a private movement therapist since 1983.
Her choreographic ceremonies, including “Tallit: Prayer Shawl,” and “Purses, Pockets and Family Secrets” have been performed throughout the United States. For her “ground-breaking” work in the Arts and Humanities, she was inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame in 1990, and has been the recipient of numerous grants from Ohio’s Joint Council of Arts and Humanities and the Ohio Arts Council.
She is a certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst, registered Movement Therapist and Educator (ISMETA), and a certified practitioner of Brennan Healing Science.
As a pioneer in the education of the whole child, she created “Curriculum in Motion” in Los Angeles in 1967. Her work FLIGHT, FIGHT, FREEZE! Moving Toward Peace, stems from her own personal encounters with rage, loss, and trauma, and is a work of surging, wild, celebratory and liberating joy.
